Hi everyone! This is your friendly reminder that fanworks (whether or not they were inspired by the brainstormed prompts) should be posted here the weekend of May 26-28. If you're not going to be online that weekend, feel free to post them a bit early.

There are some amazing prompts on the prompt brainstorming post. Feel free to write/vid/make fanart/crochet/bake/whatever-you-do in response to one of those -- or to whatever other ideas strike your fancy!

Post your fanworks over the weekend of May 26-28.

Have fun!

Hi everyone! [personal profile] roga and I are delighted to welcome y'all to another round of creating (Hebrew) Bible-based fanworks: stories, vids, meta posts, recs lists, fanart, knitted items, whatever form your Biblical fannishness wants to take.

What: Another Biblical fanworks fest!
When:
  • April 9-13: time to brainstorm prompts

  • Then: six weeks to create fanworks

  • Post your fanworks: over the weekend of May 25-28 (which happens to contain the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which celebrates the revelation of Torah at Sinai.)

FAQ: For answers to (what we hope will be) your questions, check out our intro and rules post. (Just ignore the dates -- those are outdated, but the rules are not.)

Stay tuned: a post for brainstorming Biblical prompts is coming up soon right here! At the end of this week, we'll close the official brainstorming period and enter six weeks of creativity.

Feel free to signal-boost!

Hello everyone!

I'm just posting to let you know that [personal profile] roga and I are hoping to run another fanworks fest here in about six weeks.

During the first week of April, we'll open up a post where people can brainstorm prompts for Bible-related fanworks. After the first night of Passover (April 6) we'll have seven weeks to write, vid, create meta, create fanart, etc; the new round of fanworks will go live on May 27 (which happens to be the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which celebrates the revelation of Torah at Sinai.)

More details forthcoming, but that's the general scoop. Feel free to chime in with questions, comments, concerns...

Thanks to everyone who brainstormed prompts in the comments of our last post! OMG, this is an awesome list.

All of the prompts which were brainstormed appear below the cut. Feel free to claim one by leaving a comment on this post. (And, of course, if you're struck by random inspiration, feel free to create fanworks which didn't arise out of these prompts at all.)

Fanworks (fic, art, vids, meta, whatever you want to create) are due June 7-9. Have fun!

1. A prompt may be a lyric, poem, quotation, picture, plot sketch, verse--whatever grabs you.

2. Prompts may be submitted for any genre, rating, and ship.

3. You may submit as many prompts as you like. In fact, we encourage that!

4. Prompt submissions are open from now until May 15, after which no more will be accepted.

Hi everyone! [personal profile] roga and I had the best intentions of giving everyone here a full seven weeks to create awesome Biblical fanworks this season, with the theory of hosting another Biblical fanworks fest over the dates of the Jewish festival of Shavuot (this year: June 7-9, more or less) when Jews celebrate the revelation of Torah at Sinai. And then we forgot about it until just now. So...we're giving you just under four weeks, instead!

What: Another Biblical fanworks fest at [community profile] in_the_beginning!

When:

Step one, brainstorming a list of prompts, will begin in just a few minutes (as soon as we make a post about it) and will close on Sunday May 15. ETA: here's the prompt submission post!

Step two, claiming prompts, will begin on Sunday May 15 -- we'll collect a master list of prompts and post it here, and then you're invited to "claim" a prompt by leaving a comment to tell us what you want to do.

Step three, posting fanworks, will happen on June 7-9. And then we'll post a master list of fanworks once the fest is over.

(If it's your practice not to use computers during Jewish holidays, you can post your stuff early. Or late. We're flexible.)

(And you're welcome to post fanworks even if you forget to claim a prompt. Or even if you have an idea which isn't one of the prompts. Or whatever. Did we mention that we're flexible?)

For more information: Check out the intro and rules post from our first Biblical fanworks fest; the dates of the fest are obviously no longer correct, but the rest of the rules are.

Stay tuned for the prompt brainstorming post, which is coming soon -- and please spread the word in your own journals, via email, and on whatever communities you think are appropriate!

Hi everyone! Some of you have been wondering whether or not [community profile] in_the_beginning will be happening this year. Well, this is the official announcement that yes, it will! The dates of the fest will be Sept 22nd-Sept 29th, and we encourage all of you to post new Bible-inspired fanworks to the community (and elsewhere!).

Prompts: You can still use any of the prompts submitted at last year's prompts post, or you can submit new prompts in this post. We won't have any official prompt claiming this year, so if you feel like any of the prompts submitted inspire you, run with it!

Links:
Last year's rule post (note that this year's dates are different, and as we said, there's no official prompt claiming.)

The Bible is one of the world's biggest fandoms but one of fandom's smallest fandoms. Last year the fest produced a small quantity of very high quality fanworks, and a few stories have been posted to the comm since. We encourage and look forward to see what y'all post this year!

This story was originally conceived for the in_the_beginning Hebrew Bible Fanworks Fest 2009, but I missed the deadline and then let it fade into obscurity in the back of a folder until rediscovering it, dusting it off and throwing it up here mostly as an unaltered draft. I think it's sort of fun. The character of Jumella refers to the Midrashic tradition that Cain and Abel were both born with twin sisters and each was betrothed to the other's twin resulting in the conflict that eventually led to murder. The name, itself, however, along with the name Aclima come from later Islamic sources.

Title: "Three Accounts of Fratricide" by zephyrprince
Rating: R
Book: Book of Genesis, Midrash
Characters: Cain, Abel, Jumella, G-d
Warnings: Het incest, slash incest, sex with God (deiphilia?)
Word count: 677 words ficlet
Prompt: Cain/Able brothercest
Summary/notes: Telling and retelling the story of Cain and Abel

Title: Two Princes
Rating: All Audiences
Book/character: Numbers/Exodus: Moses&Aaron&Miriam
Warnings: The sort of subtle heresy I prefer to the obvious ones
Summary/notes: What happened at the Mei Merivah, Numbers 20. Sort of a sequel/companion to my "Thus Sang Moses" and "Behold, He Cometh Forth to Meet Thee".
Wordcount:~1100

Because this festival has led to me sitting during the weekly Torah reading and thinking about text in a whole new way, here's a short story inspired by last week's Torah reading.

Title: Noah and the Dove
Rating: All Audiences
Book/character: Genesis: Noah
Warnings: The sort of subtle heresy I prefer to the obvious ones, the sort of gently misogynistic joking that can characterize 20th century Jewish humor.
Summary/notes: Essentially, it's a new aggadic midrash on the story of Noah. Inspired by the Jewish folktales I grew up with, as well as the folktales of other cultures I read later.
Wordcount:~900

So it came to pass that Noah led his family off of the Ark at the end of the rains... )
